Get a group of friends and schedule a time to come for a week to improve your riding skills & horsemanship. Then learn stockmanship on a real working cattle ranch. Bring your own horse or rent a ranch horse. Camp in your trailer, tent ,the ranch RV" Cousin Eddie" or motel in town. Get to learn what it is like on a ranch. Breakfast and lunch on your own. Spring Ranch experience happens around the 3rd week in April. This gives the late calves time to get bigger. If you are luck you will get to see one born or see the Spring prairie burns. This is a two day event. Come on Thursday and go home Sunday morning. We head out horseback covering miles of rolling fields to gather up the cow calf pairs. Drive them home to the sorting pens to be sorted. Cow will get preg checked and doctored if needed. Calves may need branded. May also just have move stock to different locations. $140 includes elec,pens for your horse and 2 evening meals. Breakfast and lunch on your own. Those that do not have trailer can camp in tent, if available Cousin Eddie the ranch RV or motel in town. If you do not have your own horse you can rent a ranch horse for $100 for the event.
In the1st Week in May the Spring calves are gathered and brought in with their moms. They will be sorted in the sorting pen. Then riders will go into the herd of calves and rope them by the back feet and drug out to where "muggers" will put them in a restraint that holds there front. Then they will go to work to de-horn them, vaccinate, ear tag and castrate the bull calves.
Cattle in all different stages of age are shipped . They could be steers that have been put out on grass for 90 days then go to feed lots. Days start in the dark of the morning to get ready for sun up. Shipping is done in the cool of the morning. It is the best on the cattle. Weaning of calves- This happens twice a year . Fall calves are weaned in July.
